Haiku 575 weekly net!

EDIT!!!! – Due to… well, everything… The way this has worked out isn’t by doing the locations. Simply a guided topic of discussion. If we had something in excess of 30 people or so checking in then this would all make more sense. I hope you’ve been enjoying the nets, please ignore most of this post.

Weekly nets every THURSDAY at 7 PM!!! Guided topics or just simply interesting events of your week. Thank you all for the support!

In theme with the 575, or Haiku as it is known in literature, I would like to host a haiku net weekly.

The idea is to have a reason to check in, for the community and everyone listening, even on FRS radios, to hear what’s going on in their local area.

Things like, “The construction holds traffic up, it’s best to find another route”, or “There is an ongoing fire in this area”. But if nothing exciting is going on then it could simply be if you got a new radio, or plans for the weekend.

Really not restrictive but I’d like to have more community involvement than just having a repeater and hoping folks somehow magically find a reason to use it!

What is a Haiku?

A haiku is a traditional Japanese form of poetry that consists of three lines with a syllable pattern of 5-7-5. This means the first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Haikus often focus on nature, seasons, or moments of beauty and simplicity, capturing a fleeting moment in just a few words.

575… Haiku… How will this work?

To give your 5, 7, 5 report on the 5th day of the week at 7PM. (Was 5PM but people still work at that time and it makes the schedule tight.)

That translates to THURSDAYS AT 7PM.

5 sentences or less, a summary of anything to note over the previous 7 days within your 5-mile radius.

If you split the Springs into 9 five-mile blocks, you basically get NorthWest, North, NorthEast – West, Central, East – SouthWest, South, SouthEast. These 9 blocks are close enough to 5 mile segments that it aligns pretty well. See this example.

Example

Each grid goes in order. So we start with Grid 1 – NorthWest.

This is WRXK576, NorthWest region. The Air Force Academy had a football game that I went to and it was awesome! A bad accident on I-25 stopped traffic for 3 hours. I got a cat last Tuesday. And my brother came to visit.

You could do it in a Haiku, if you felt like it!

I went to the store
I saw a couple cats fight
My power went out

Let me know what you think!

Leave a comment, send me an email from the contact page, or use the repeater letting me know what your thoughts are and if this seems interesting/useful or stupid!
